As an openly-gay, San Diego-based, California-licensed psychotherapist, I assist my clients in achieving their goals and becoming the men and women they want to be. I love my work and am committed to my clients' personal growth. I work well with motivated, higher functioning individuals and couples committed to their own learning, growth and development.
Relationship Therapy:
A good relationship is like a precious jewel and should be treated as one. If you and your partner feel you have drifted apart, are taking each other for granted, and/or are having the same arguments over and over again, relationship therapy can make the difference between giving up and working through the obstacles. In our work together, I can help you and your partner to deepen your relationship and create a new level of satisfaction and fulfillment together.
Free Telephone Consultation:
I offer potential clients - both individuals and couples - a free telephone consultation so you can ask me any questions you may have before scheduling your first session.
My Office:
My practice is located in the Kensington area of San Diego, at the intersection of Marlborough Drive and Hilldale Road (north of Adams Avenue). There is plenty of free street parking. The office is easily accessible from the 8 and 15 freeways.
Columns, publications, etcetera:
I write the "Wellness" column for The Bottom Line magazine (San Diego and Palm Springs editions). I am also a contributor to INSTINCT magazine and the San Diego Union-Tribune, as well as a psychological consultant to San Diego's Channel 6 Evening News.
Bio:
Born in Northern Ohio (the oldest of four children), I grew up in a small town of two thousand sassy farmers. I was named after my great-grandfather Michael, who reportedly had the first Ford dealership in the State of Ohio (he ran it out of his hardware store). In 1971, I escaped the farm and made it to the big city of Cincinnati, where I earned a B.A. in Personnel and Group Development from the University of Cincinnati. After working in personnel and human resources in the 1970's, I earned a Master's Degree in Developmental Psychology from Sarah Lawrence College while working for Sesame Street" in New York City (yes, I know Big Bird).
After moving to San Francisco in the 1980's, I was the Clinical Director for the Homeless Children's Network and earned my second Master's Degree from San Francisco State University. From 1996 to 1998, I worked as a Middle School Counselor in the San Francisco Public Schools. I came to San Diego in 1998,where I've worked as a licensed psychotherapist for Kaiser Permanente (Point Loma Psychiatry), San Diego Hospice (both inpatient and outpatient care) and Psychiatric Centers at San Diego. I opened my private practice in 2002.
