Tarra Stariell founded the The Center for SELF Discovery in 2002, located in Escondido. She maintains an office there as well as in Solana Beach. Tarra has been working in the field for over nine years and brings diverse experiences to her work. Having specialized training in children and adolescents, Tarra worked for several years with the Juvenile Justice system with substance abusing and parenting teens. Recently, she participated in a research grant sponsored in part by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Columbia University to discover the most efficient therapeutic method for moving substance dependent welfare mothers away from chronic drug abuse and into mainstream society.

Tarra is a Certified Bioenergetic Analyst (CBT), having completed the training with the San Diego Institute of Bioenergetic Analysis in 1998.

Bioenergetics is a mind/body method of therapy that is based on the premise that what happens to the person is registered in the mind and also stored in the muscle tissue of the body. Thus, when working with an individual, for lasting change, claiming one's full self-potential and experiencing an enduring sense of aliveness, the body and the mind need to be incorporated in the therapeutic process.

Tarra is also bilingual in Spanish and lived in South America for several years. She works in private practice and has presented locally on "Attachment Issues and Bioenergetics" as well as "Bringing the Body in the Therapy Room." She believes that life's experiences offer a doorway to one's true self, and are best accessed within the safety of the therapeutic relationship. Through the exploration of one's mind and the accompanying energies stored in the body, the Bioenergetic Therapist is able to facilitate healing from trauma and the wounds that life brings, and also offer an opportunity to reclaim one's full potential--that of joy, love, happiness, creativity, spirituality, our sexuality and aliveness, or zest for life.
